Andrea Flores Why I became interested in Zeta Sigma Chi I became interested in being a member of Zeta Sigma Chi because the idea of being a part of an organization that actually promotes diversity excited me. I was so relieved to find that there was a sorority that really was interested in learning about different cultures, and not only learning about them, but celebrating them. Being open-minded and accepting of all people is very important to me, and I felt that I had finally found an organization that represented exactly what I expected. After researching further into the organization, there were more and more reasons that continued to interest me. Mainly, the ideals that Zeta Sigma Chi represents seem to be a perfect match for me; Education, Success, Culture and Sisterhood. When I came to know and love my fellow founders, and sorors from other chapters, I knew that I had found something that was so special and represented who I strive to be as a person. Linda Chaouche Why I wanted to found a chapter of Zeta Sigma Chi It all started my freshman year when I was on a soccer field and heard the idea of starting a multicultural sorority. I was beyond excited. Since I am from a very multicultural background, I thought that was the perfect place for me to fit in. What I found attractive about Zeta Sigma Chi I was not interested in joining a sorority. I always thought that sororities were not for me and I could never conform to the idea of being a 'sorority girl'. Though, no organization seemed to have caught my eye quite like Zeta Sigma Chi did. Nothing appealed to me because they all seem to fall under one category, unlike Zeta Sigma Chi, which is a social and at the same time a service organization with an immense emphasis on education...how much better could an organization get? ZSC fell under a sorority, but if it brought me happiness why not give it a shot, I thought. Things did not go as planned with the initiation, so I took the matter into my own hands and that's when my 8 line-sisters joined the show and became the Founding Mothers of Eta Chapter, the first multicultural sorority on campus. Something I will always be proud of. What I've learned from Zeta Sigma Chi This experience has built my self confidence to achieve great things in life. I learned how to deal with various people and situations. Where I am now I am currently a sales executive for one of the largest denim companies in the world. I am pursuing a Master in Finance which I will hopefully accomplish in 3 years from now. Adria Castillo What motivated me to found Eta Chapter Not knowing anyone in a new place wasn't the problem - in fact, I knew of several people I had gone to high school with who were probably in the same vicinity, feeling the same way I was: unsure. We didn't really get going with the sorority until the spring semester of 2002 - that's when I had the pleasure of having Linda as a roommate and Tisha as a neighbor, and of course, Haley and Alisa as new friends. I found these girls to be so pleasant, free-spirited, invincible even. It was almost too natural of an attraction between interest - one interest in particular - staying together for the rest of the years. One thing led to another and by the time we had been colonized, we had put so much effort and work into our little group that there was a nonspoken consensus that we would all finish. And the girls that did stay became the Founders of Eta Chapter of Zeta Sigma Chi. What I've learned from Zeta Sigma Chi Being a part of this sorority has tested my threshold on numerous levels - it's made me realize that others as well as myself are stronger than others may believe us to be. At this moment in time, I would not change a thing about my college career. I enjoyed most of my days because even when school was tough, the girls were always there with me. No doubt, anyone can survive through school by themselves - but being a part of my girls, who would want to? What Zeta Sigma Chi can do for other girls I am very happy, proud of what we have made, and what is to come. We are leaving a legacy of personality, intuition, and strength for other girls to find themselves, just as we did. Where I'm headed now... I will be moving to California in the spring, and because of my girls, I have no fear. Well, maybe a little. But I know they will always be there, from the beginning to the end, just as they have always been.
